
About The Company
Service King was started in 2003 by owner Derek McDonald during his 2nd year of college at Southern Utah University. Derek was recruited his freshman year to go to California to knock doors as a salesman for a carpet cleaning company. When he got home he bought a carpet cleaning machine and began cleaning carpets in order to pay for college. When he graduated SUU in 2006 he was faced with a decision; continue growing the company or find a job in the business world. He chose to run with the company. Originally the company name was Steam King and was focused primarily on carpet cleaning. As the company grew and expanded into other services, Steam King was re-named and re-branded to incorporate all of the services offered. Service King became the new name and helped brand the company to what it is now. Derek has taken his education in the field very seriously. After years of education and technical training he achieved the coveted IICRC triple master certification. This is the highest level of education the industry has to offer.
Since its inception 15 years ago, Service King has become one of the market leaders for the cleaning and restoration industry in Southern Utah. Derek is still the President and CEO of the company but now has a General Manager and an Operations Manager. Service King has more than 10 employees and locations in Cedar City and St George. Service King provides services to towns all over Southern Utah including: Cedar City, Enoch, Panguitch, Beaver, Minersville, Enterprise, New Harmony, Kanarraville, Duck Creek, Brian Head, Richfield, St George and the surrounding areas and everywhere in between. Service King offers carpet cleaning, tile cleaning and sealing, upholstery cleaning, carpet sales and installation, hard surface flooring sales and installation, water damage restoration, full reconstruction, fire and smoke damage restoration, Asbestos testing and abatement, maid and janitorial cleaning, VCT stripping and waxing and mold testing and remediation.
Service King has grown into a large company but still has the values the company was founded on. Technical expertise, customer service, honesty and hard work are ingrained in the company culture. Service King has plans for more growth and looks forward to serving its customers for years to come.
Meet The Team

Derek McDonald
President/OwnerDerek started the business in 2003 while attending college at Southern Utah University. He has received the highest levels of education in the industry and is as passionate now as he was 15 years ago when he started the business. Derek is happily married to Sarah and has two boys together, ages 5 and 2. He is an avid Fisherman and loves to camp. An interesting fact about Derek is that he received a silver medal at the Utah summer games for table tennis.

Sarah McDonald
OwnerSarah worked hand in hand building the company with Derek for many years. She has taken a step back from the business in order to spend more time raising their two boys. She still comes in 1 or 2 days a week to help with some of the cleaning when needed. Sarah may look small but she can keep up with any of the guys in the field. She ran her own carpet cleaning truck mount for multiple years and knows the industry inside and out. Sarah’s hobbies include softball, baking, and spending time with her family.

Dan Fessia
General ManagerDan has been with the company since 2012. He is in charge of all the day to day operations of the company. Dan is married and has been with his wife for 30 years. He has 3 beautiful daughters that are all out of the house and 3 grandchildren. Dan is a real family man and a true professional. Dan is an Army Veteran and served in Deseret storm.

Operations ManagerSean is the operations manager for the company. He handles all high level restoration, estimating, budgeting and financials. He is not married but has been together with his girlfriend for over 8 years. He just bought his first house, and loves to go on cruises.

Asbestos Testing TechnicianPhilip is our Asbestos go-to guy. He has had a long career in the Restoration and air quality, and is a wealth of knowledge. Phillip lives in St. George and enjoys spending time with his wife, watching documentaries and keeping busy with work.

Lead TechnicianChristy brings years of experience with her and, will be heading up our St. George Division. Christy is one that is always ready to jump in to get her hands dirty and, doesn’t back down from a challenge. Christy has 2 teenagers and takes pride that they are on the honor roll. She loves Southern Utah and spends her free time Hiking, camping and exploring all the state parks and desert. An interesting fact about her is that she moved from Ohio in 2009 and has worked in restoration since 1999.

Penny
TechnicianPenny brings a bit of sunshine to our team with her positive attitude. She has been known a time or two to bring the team a dozen of donuts! She made a big move back in 2017 when she moved to Cedar City with her little sister. Penny has over 15 years of experience in the restoration field and quality assurance. On her off time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors by hiking and camping. An interesting fact about Penny is she was raised in Southern Indiana and found Cedar City when she attended College in Utah and fell in Love with Cedar

An interesting fact about him is that he loves to ride bicycles and motorcycles, basically anything with two wheels!

She raised her family in Loa Utah for 14 years and has been living in Cedar city for 4 years. Alisa is a very active mom and loves to take part in her busy family. An interesting fact about Alisa is she loves babysitting little kids and has several families that she watches kids for on a regular basis.

Office Administrator/Corporate Account ManagerBonnie is our Office Administrator and handles our Corporate Accounts. She and husband moved to Cedar City after losing their home in the Norther California Fires. Her and her husband have 5 grown children and one granddaughter. They chose Cedar City to make a new life and be closer to family and cannot wait to buy a house. She grew up on the west shore of Lake Tahoe and worked as a Deputy Court Clerk for 15 years. Interesting fact about Bonnie is that she learned how to ski when she was 3, Loves the outdoors and shooting with her husband. She is currently studying to take her paralegal exam.
